Dear colleagues,
As the academic year finishes, I would like to thank all of you for the support you have provided to our students, especially the class of 2023. I hope that you will have a chance to congratulate these students, their friends, and their families as they celebrate during the commencement season.
Several members of our faculty have been recognized for their scholarly contributions recently. Distinguished Professor Leo Chavez has been elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and Professors Roland Betancourt and Héctor Tobar have been named 2023 Guggenheim Fellows. These are outstanding recognitions of these individuals and of the quality of research occurring in our community. You can read more about these recognitions, other recent accolades, and research highlights below.
It seems that each year brings new challenges. I would like to express my gratitude to our faculty and staff for their continued efforts while also managing the impacts of the campus budget deficit and recent labor agreements. Your dedication to UCI and our students is both recognized and appreciated. I wish you all a restful and productive summer.
Hal Stern
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor
